Heiluah Pass

"Look how many of them there are!" Illin exclained in fearful awe.

On either side Illin's older troika sisters agreed but kept their silence. Not more than fifty paces away was a wall of large round shields, many of them painted with faces and bodies, strange letters, or plain and shining. They could see the heads of their foes, shining as brightly as the plain shields, as were their legs.

"Are they creatures of metal?" Syllin wondered aloud. Along the width of the pass her maiden friends looked frail, holding sheilds half the size of the enemy. On all their faces she could see worry.

A bright laugh broke through Syllin's fear and she turned behind. Immediately her heart filled with courage and joy as her eyes- were filled with the resplendant vision of the Princess Gwellyn, whose fair skin and golden blond hair shone more brightly than the shields of the enemy.

"Do not fear these creatures, my friends! They bleed red blood and cry like new borns. They must come at us, through out rain of arrows and javelins and have none of their own. Fear not, my maidens, for as the Sun shines we shall be victorious!"

With her troika sisters Syllin shouted and raised her arms, each holding a white shafted javelin. Victory! she cried, Gwellyn!

Then a terrible wail came down the pass, a dread sound that reverberated in her bones and sent her weak. Against her will her head was turned over the newly raised thorn-hedge by the dark sound, to like the tempest wind of winter, and she saw that they enemy was coming.

Background

The Dannan army surprised the gathering Tautha and their own Aryidannan allies by striking to the south through ruggered hills instead of inland and into the forests where the Sidhe were. A Tir army that had recently crossed the dangerous Tentac delta was the only force close enough to reach the Heiluah Pass before the Dannan could sieze it without battle.

Meadow of Glamour

The Tir have grown their hedgerow at the narrowest part of the Pass and deployed behind it in waiting, the same way as they successfully fight the Tentac. The Dannan army has started to move down the funneling slopes of the pass.

The narrow point is exactly four Stands wide. The sides of the pass are rocky ground which is Hard going. Units with Ambush can start the battle in Ambush on either side.

The Tir deploy on the right side of the Hedge. The Rangers can deploy anywhere on the Meadow (including in ambush).

The Dannan start up to 8" in from the left side. All Units have to be in the Pass.

Victory Conditions

The Dannan want to force the pass; the Tir want to stop them. The battle continues until the first side is Defeated when two Units have been Routed.
