Rules
Sol'una is currently in
beta development. Interested gamers can partake in beta
testing the miniature rules component by contacting us.
Heroic Space Opera
Player characters in Sol'una are powerful, skilled Beings equipped with an
amazing array of technology and weapons. Ordinary mortals quake in fear or awe
at their achievements. Each game turn contains ten action phases; a character's
Mind attribute determines how many actions they can execute in a turn and when
crossed-referenced with the phase table, in which phases he can take an action.
There is no u-go-i-go as characters from all sides take their actions
simultaneously during a phase, whose actions are carefully organised with timing
rules (e.g. attacks are resolved before movement).
Characters will be able to fight off more enemies, outwit their opponents,
escape from seemingly impossible situations, and get the girl (or guy) just like
the heroes of books and movies.
But they'll have to be careful. The Universe is a big place and their are always
others who are even more powerful.
Unique Dice Play
Most dice based games require a roll of one or more die to be over or under some
number to count as a 'hit' or success. To make Sol'una stand out a new unique
method of dice management was evolved. When a model makes a test with X standard
D6 dice, they are rolled and then sorted into groups of the same face (pips).
The largest group is then used to resolve the test..
Sol Agent Corona Csen makes a Searing Hands melee attack against the
smuggler De'Viled using 5 dice and gets 4,2,6,3,6. 2,3 and 4 are all in a group
of 1, the 6 group has a size of 2 making it largest group of like faces.
Game factors can increase or decrease the number of dice in the test, but
Sol'una has another unique method; the term flipping. After the dice have been
rolled some of them can be flipped to an adjacent face and the groups re-sorted.
This could change the largest face group.
Corona Csen has a total of 3 positive flips for his attack and De'Viled has
two negative flips. 3 - 2 = 1, so Csen can flip any one of his dice. Since all
the other dice are adjacent faces of 6 (the face 1 is an opposite, not
adjacent), Csen flips the 4 to a 6 and increases the face group 6 from 2 to 3.
After rolling and flipping the dice the largest face group is used. In a combat
test the target's armour decreases the group by its rating. In a test with a
target number the test is successful if the face group equals or is greater than
the target number.
De'Viled has Shield 2 and Body 2. Shield's are ignored by melee attacks so
only Body is used. The largest face group (6) has 3 dice. 3 - 2 = 1. Csen's
attack causes 1 damage to De'Viled.
The mechanism is quite simple and both tester and target can be involved in a
test modifying the number of dice or flips the test will make with their
exhaustible resource supply - giving the game resource management
characteristics and getting players to really think about their actions.
