Stratagems

Victory on the Meadow of Glamour is not just achieved through the brave and glamourous acts of maids and damsels. A wise Heroine or Princess prefers not to fight an even fight but to apply every advantage she can in order to win. Ambushes to surprise the enemy, advances throug hidden paths to attack from an unexpected quarter or simple bribery of clothes and accessories to sway hearts over to your side - the cunning Princess knows how and when to apply them all.

Using Stratagems in games

Stratagems are Heroine Rules and so optional. All players need to agree before hand that Stratagems can be used in a battle. Stratagems are best employed for larger battles where their impact will be less.

For every 100 army points an Army can include 1 Stratagem.

Each Stratagem explains how and when it can be used and what its outcomes are. A player must write down their Stratagem and hand it to the other player folded so they can't see it.

  • Advance Guard: Part of the army has marched ahead of the rest to secure an important terrain feature. 1 Unit can be deployed an additional 6" further forward than the rest of the army. This unit must have the highest M value in the army.
  • Forced March: The Heroine has ordered the army to march without rest breaks. Each Unit in the army can make one move directly forward before the battle begins. During the battle all Units that Forced March suffer -1 to their Follow Up rolls.
  • Flank March: Part of the army has taken a longer route to reach the Meadow and fall upon the enemy in their flank. 1 Unit is not deployed. Instead it arrives on a table edge that does not have a deployment zone; the player chooses this edge before deployment. The Unit can arrive starting from the second turn on a 5+ and increase the chance by 1 for each turn after.
  • Ditch: The Princess has ordered her maidens the rather unglamourous task of digging a ditch across the army's front. For each Unit in the army the player gets a 1 Stand width ditch. A ditch is one standard base depth deep and is Difficult terrain. Stands in a ditch suffer D-1 in melee.
  • Delayed Arrival: Bad weather or roads have slowed the arrival of some of the enemies army. One player plays this Stratagem on the other player; that player randomly choose one Unit which is not deployed at the start of the battle. Instead that Unit can arrive starting from the second turn on a 5+ and increase the chance by +1 for each turn after.
  • Changed Loyalty: Gifts of expensive fabrics, accessories or the attentions of the Heroine herself have swayed the hearts of some of the enemy and at the signal they will change sides and attack the enemy! One player plays this Stratagem on the other player and picks one of their Units. That Unit deploys with the Heroine's army instead and is under her control (can only be chosen in games of 200AP or more).
  • Uncommitted: Gifts have earnt the promise from an aspiring enemy maiden not to fight in the battle as effectively as she could. On player plays this Stratagem on the other player and picks on of their Units. Once during the game when the Unit is moved the Princess can activate the Stratagem and stop the Unit from moving.
  • Disguise: The Hoplites didn't like wearing the smock of a peasant but it was all part of the Princess's plan to deceive the enemy. 2 Units are chosen in the Princesses army after deployment and their positions swapped.
